Police in England have arrested a Liverpool fan after the team’s opening match of Premier League Against Bournemouth on Friday was interrupted when Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo accused a man of racial abuse.
Merseyside Police Released a statement on Saturday confirming that a 47-year-old Liverpool man was arrested on suspicion of a racially worsening public order violation after the incident at Anfield.

“The suspected identity was confirmed and he was removed from the ground after the report,” the statement states. According to police, the man was interviewed in police custody.

The incident happened in the first half of the 28-minute brand as Semenyo, who is black, was preparing to take a corner. After talking to the referee, Semenyo ran to talk to both coaches and both team captains.
The delay lasted only two minutes. Semenyo remained in the game and scored both Bournemouth’s goals in the 4-2 loss. At the break, a counter -discrimination message was read to the amount inside the stadium.

Semenyo released a statement on social media on Saturday thanks to football fans, teammates, opponents and officials for their support.
“Last night at Anfield, there will be for me forever – not because of a person’s words, but because of how the whole football family stood together,” his post began. “To my @AFCB -teammates who supported me at that moment, to the @liverpoolc players and fans who showed their true character, to @premierleague -officials who handled it professionally -Thank football showed its best page as it means the most.
“The overwhelming messages of support from the whole football world remind me why I love this sport,” he continued. “We are continuing to get on together.”

Premier League announced in a separate statement that it will investigate the incident and “offer our full support to the player and both clubs.”
