Police officer martyred, three wounded in clashes with terrorists in Bannu

A police officer was killed and three others were wounded during an exchange of gunfire involving police, civilians and terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Bannu -District, police said on Thursday.

The wounded include police constable Mir Zaman, schoolteacher Naqeebullah and a civilian, Khafeezullah.

They were moved to District Headquarters Hospital for Medical Treatment.

“Members of the Peace Committee patrolled the area with the police personnel when they were attacked by terrorists around 12:30,” spokesman for the regional police officer told the local news site.

The incident took place late Tuesday night in the Landidak area within the Huwaid -Political Station’s Jurisdiction. Police said members of a local peace committee and residents opposed the terrorists who tried to enter the village.

The martyred officer was identified as Murtaza, which was sent at Bakakhel TDP camp. The locals had previously warned terrorists not to enter the area through social joints and picked up weapons to defend themselves as the group tried an entry.

Police said the terrorists were forced to flee because of the coordinated reaction of both police and armed residents.

Separately, at least seven people, including police personnel, were killed and five others wounded in a series of shooting events over Bannu for the last 24 hours.
