The Islamabad police stormed the National Press Club on Thursday and vandalized his cafeteria and reportedly assaulted journalists after confused them to protesters.
According to reports, police staff conducted Raidet and vulnerable media workers present in the premises of violence.
Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist’s (PFUJ) Secretary -General Arshad Ansari strongly condemned the incident and called it an “attack” on journalists.
He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate action and added that the assault was to open “Thuggery” in the federal capital. He demanded cases against and arrests of the officers involved.
Ansari said the incident created the impression that the press club had transformed into a police officer rather than a space for journalists.
Separately condemned the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Raidet and expressed deep concern about the use of force against journalists. In a statement, the rights body demanded an immediate investigation and accountability for those responsible.
