As the first -nogeness pope to come from the United States, Robert Prevost’s American sports band quickly became a point in the global conversation after he was appointed Pope Leo XIV.
As a native in Chicago, Prevost’s White Sox -Fandom came out this week, and it turns out he’s not just a casual fan either. Recordings of Prevost Participating Games 1 of the World Series in 2005 appeared on social media Friday.
With pure chance, Prevost was shown on MLB on Fox Broadcast for that game at the US Cellular Field on October 22, 2005, and the cameras caught him under the top of the ninth lap when White Sox got a 5-3 win over Houston Astros.

White Sox won the series in a four-match sweep for their only championship since 1917.
Prevost was first revealed as a White Sox fan when his brother, John Prevost, mentioned it in an interview with WGN TV.
“He was always a sox fan,” John said.
But the pope’s rooting interest apparently may not end with baseball.
Reverand Robert P. Hagan, a friend of Prevosts and a chaplain at Pope’s Alma Mater, Villanova University, The Athletic told about Prevost’s link to New York Knicks and their star star of former Villanova players.

“We’ve had a lot of fun watching Knicks because Jalen (Brunson) and Josh (Hart) and Donete (Divincenzo) were there, and now Mikal (Bridges) is there,” Hagan said. “I think Pope Leo will still keep an eye on Nova Knicks. I think he will still keep an eye on wildcats and I think he will be very proud of not just who they are but the way they play with a particular spirit and selflessness.”
Leo XIV was first brought to the Vatican by Pope Francis to serve as a prefect for Dicastery for Bishop’s Bishop’s in January 2023, which is one of the most important positions in the Catholic Church, as the veterinary bishop nominations issued globally.
Francis then raised him to the position of Cardinal in September 2023.
It was reported that Leo was close to the line of Francis’s teachings as the leader of the Catholic Church, especially when it came to his positions on the environment, sought out to the poor and migrants and opens Catholic Church to embrace more followers.

In 2015, Leo achieved Peruvian citizenship. He remained in Peru until he was moved to the Vatican in 2023.
During his last years in Peru, Leo also served as Vice President of the Permanent Council for the Peruvian Bishop Conference from 2018 to 2023, which probably helped him secure his role as a prefect for the Dicasteriet for bishopes under Francis.
