The Vatican City:

Pope Leo XIV said he was happy to hear about the recent truce in India-Pakistan and hoped that negotiations would lead to a lasting agreement between the nuclear armed neighbors.

The new pope appealed to the world’s great powers to “No More War” in his first Sunday message to crowds at St. Peters Torv since his choice as Pontiff.

Pope Leo, elected on May 8, called for an “authentic and lasting peace” in Ukraine, a ceasefire in Gaza, and the release of all Israeli hostages contained by the militant group Hamas.

Leo, who spoke in fluent Italian, also greeted Leo the recent fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan, negotiated overnight and said he asked to God to give the world “Peace Miracle.”

“No more war!” The pope said, repeating a frequent call from the deceased Pope Francis and noticing the recent 80 -year anniversary of the end of 2. World War, where about 60 million people were killed.

Leo said the world of today lived through “the dramatic scenario of a Third World War that was fought piecemeal,” and repeated a sentence minted by Francis.

Tens of thousands of people at St. Peter’s square and on via Della Conciliazione, which led to the Vatican, broke into applause at the call for peace on what was a joyful apartment despite Leo’s solemn message.

The new pope said he carries in his heart “The suffering of the beloved people in Ukraine.”

Hours after Russian President Vladimir, Putin directly suggested with Ukraine, aimed at ending the bloody three -year war, Leo appealed to negotiations to reach an “authentic, fair and lasting peace”.

The pope also said he was “deeply sad” of the war in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian help and release of the remaining hostages that Hamas had.
