The spokesman for Power Division, Zafaryab Khan, has treated rumors about changes in electricity rigs, saying that the federal government will implement the recently announced relief in power prices.

In an interview with the app, Zafaryab rejected Khan reports of changes in electricity rates and called them baseless and contradictory. He added that some elements deliberately spread false information about electricity rates and technical details and distorted facts.

“These reports mistakenly represent the government’s official attitude and are aimed at causing confusion among the public,” he said.

The spokesman emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s notice of a reduction in the electricity rates is accurate and its implementation will continue as planned.

Zafaryab Khan noted that in the light of the coming summer season, the prime minister had directed immediate action to ease consumers. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, NEPRA conducted a public consultation on April 4 to carry out the relief package without delay.

He further confirmed that the federal cabinet had already approved the auxiliary package that will apply to all power distribution companies across the country.

The spokesman attributed to the fulfillment of this relief to months of negotiations, including conversations with independent power producers (IPPS) to reduce customs.

He also said that discussions about customs categories are unnecessary at this time as the relief now reaches the public. “The government deserves credit for this timely intervention,” he concluded.
