Karachi:
Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has reported a significant oil and gas discovery on his DHOK SULTAN-03 well in District Attock, Punjab. This marks the second carbon hydride find in the Dhok Sultan block and is among the deepest oil discoveries in naturally broken carbonate formations in the Potwar region.
According to PPL, the well was drilled according to extensive geological, geophysical and reservoir technical studies. The company said that the optimization of wells design helped overcome drilling challenges, saving both time and costs.
PPL, operator of the DHOK Sultan block with a 75 percent work interest, collaborated with Government Holding’s Private Limited (GHPL), which has the remaining 25 percent. The drilling began on January 18, 2025 and reached a depth of 5,815 meters.
Testing targeted hydrocarbon potential in the patala and Lockhart formations. The results showed encouraging currents of 1,469 barrels per year. Day (BPD) oil and 2.56 million standard cubic foot per day. Day (MMSCFD) Gas at a well -headflow pressure (WHFP) of 1,147 PSSIG on a 32/64 “choke. At a 48/64” Choke, Production WHFP reached.
The discovery emphasizes the unused carbon hydride potential of the mature Potwar-Kohat sub-pool, long considered a challenging exploration zone. PPL noted that advanced technologies, detailed geophysical analysis and in-house technical capabilities enabled breakthroughs.
The company’s officials said the new reserves could contribute meaningfully to the National Energy Mix and reduce the dependence on imported fuel.
