Lahore:
Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) local chapter has thrown its full support behind the famous poet Habib Jalib’s daughter, Tahira Habib Jalib, to the NA-129 election.
Despite the presence of Asif Mahmood Nagra, considered a strong competitor to the party ticket, the local chapter is leaning against the new participant Tahira Habib Jalib, who has been brought in during his successes within the party.
Until a couple of years ago, Tahira served her by living by running a fully-high driving school in Mustafa Town. According to the party, she has now moved to taxi driving.
Party leaders believe that assigned to her the ticket would revive PPP’s old, Die-Hard workers who would see the move as a return to the party’s ideological roots.
While they recognize that defeat in NA-129 seems to be “a writing on the wall” for PPP, they claim that the party with Mrs. Jalib would at least serve the boasting rights to give tickets to people with humble background.
A message issued to the media by the party said politicians and journalists were asked to support Tahira Habib Jalib’s nomination through a press conference that would be held by the taxi driver himself.
“Tahira Habib Jalib, daughter of the famous revolutionary poet Habib Jalib, represents the underprivileged class of Pakistan and has applied for a ticket from PPP to NA-129 Lahore elections,” the statement states.
The press conference, held in Lahore Monday (today), participates in Tahira Habib Jalib with PPP leader Faisal Mir.
During the event, Tahira and Faisal Mir will specifically appeal to thirty politicians, intellectuals and journalists – by name – to support her nomination and support her representation of ordinary people.
Faisal Mir starts the election campaign with the slogan: “Support taxi driver Tahira Habib Jalib or supports the ruling class politician”.
Faisal Mir, who returned to Pakistan from America on Sunday, could not be reached for comments.
