PPP solution in NA calls for relief for flood victims

Islamabad:

PPP made a decision in the National Assembly on Friday, which called for urgent national and international reaction to the ongoing flood and agricultural crisis across the country.

The resolution noted that over 1,000 people have died in the floods so far, while 5.8 million people have been affected and 4 million displaced.

According to the text, Punjab has slightly massive crop damage with 60% of rice, 35% of cotton and 30% of the sugar cane damaged. More than 1.3 million hectares of agricultural land in the eastern rivers are submerged, which affects the current Kharif yield.

The resolution required waiver of electricity bills for flooders, cash transfers through Benazir Income Support Program (Bisp) and the supply of medicine and health facilities to affected areas.

The resolution emphasized the immediate need for national and global humanitarian reaction, including a non-led international flash appeal.
