PPP -Stadies protest against channels

Hyderabad:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has planned that Jogge is reminiscent of its anti-kalabagh dam protests as it sets up demonstrations against the construction of six new channels on the Indus River. The party’s Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro told a demonstration at Dulha Darya Bridge in the T.Tatta district on Tuesday that in the next phase of their protest sit-in demonstrations are held in all Talukas in the province.

He stated that party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will deal with public meetings starting from April 4 by going to Division’s headquarters one after another. He added that Sit-in on National Highway is also planned.

“The protest movement will continue until the federal government withdraws to build cholistan and other channels.” He reminded that the movement against Kalabagh Dam had also started from the Thatta District in the 1990s.

Khuhro, citing some leaders of the great Democratic Alliance (GDA) of Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Khuhro said that many political figures who are currently against the channels supported the Kalabagh dam in the past. “Liaquat Jatoi [a Dadu district based politician] Even organized collections for former dictator Perez Musharraf to support the dam. “

He also remembered that, when he was minister of chief, Jatoi affected the then Sindh assembly speaker Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah to postpone a planned session in the assembly where a decision was planned to be moved towards the dam. “Those who used to sit in the lap of Musharraf and supported Kalabagh Dam, today criticizes PPP’s leadership to secretly support the channels.”
