A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Union Council President Amir Bhashani was shot to death in a targeted attack in Orangi Towns Gulhand-E-Zia area on Thursday night, police say.
Bhashani, also known as Amir Bhutto, sat inside a camp office near his home on street number one, Guldan-E-Zia, when unidentified attacks opened fire around 10 p.m. 19.50.
A case was filed at Pakistan Bazar police station under charges of murder and anti-terrorism, with three unidentified guns named as suspected by his father Muhammad Kalam.
Kalam mentioned in his statement that he was around 1 p.m. 19.50 heard shots from the camp office.
Two of the assailants ran out of the office, jumped on a motorcycle and fled from the stage, leaving Amir critically wounded.
Kalam rushed to the office and found his son being wounded. He immediately took Amir to Bismillah Chowk on a motorcycle from which an ambulance transported him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Unfortunately, Amir bent during his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Kalam believes his son was murdered for unknown reasons, possibly linked to a personal or political dispute. However, the authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
PPP has condemned the killing and demanded rapid action from the authorities.
