Prices spiral out of control in the markets

Inflation in open markets, Sunday basearies and roadside stalls has gone out of control as the prices of vegetables, fruits and grocery goods continue to rise sharply.

The increase in petrol and diesel prices has led to higher transport costs, which further increases raw material prices.

In the markets, milk is sold for RS220-240 per year. Liter, yogurt for RS240-250 per Kg, live chicken at RS400 per Kg and chicken meat at RS600 per Kg.

Eggs are priced for RS316 per Dozen, mutton at RS2,400 per Kg and beef for RS1,400 per Kg.

Among pulses and grains are white chickpeas RS400 per day. Kg, mash lenses RS550, Chana DAL RS330, Rice RS400 and cooking oil and ghee between RS500 and RS550 per Kg. Sugar is sold to RS190 per Kg.

Vegetable prices have also risen sharply with potatoes for RS100, onions at RS110, Tomatoes at RS350, Peas at RS380, local lemons at RS350, Coriander at RS50 per year. Bunch, ARVI at RS180, Cucumbers at RS100, Cauliflower at RS170, Carrots at RS250, Okra Chilies at RS150, Bitter Kalebas at RS140, Aubergine at RS100, Garlic at RS380 and Ginger for RS600 per Kg.

Fruit prices have also risen steep with apples sold to RS200-350 per day. Kg, bananas for RS120-200 per Dozen, kinnow and oranges at RS200-250 per Dozen, melons at RS170 per Kg, grapes at RS300-400 per kg, Sundarkhani grapes at RS550, papayaapes at RS400, Sun Coconuts at RS450 each, peaches for RS300-400 per Kg, Guavas at RS200-300, Pears at RS250, Persimmons at RS200 and pomegranates at RS350-450 per Kg.
