As we reported last year, the first season of Citadel fought to achieve a 50% rotten tomatoes rating. It is currently sitting on a pretty sad 51%but its spin-offs Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny is much higher classified with 82% and 75% respectively.
So of course Prime Video can have both spin-offs after just one season.
The reason is simple enough: the reviews were often rank: “As generic as they come”; “style over fabric”; “What you would get if a child tried to draw an action blockbuster from the memory”; “So frustrating low efforts are honestly kind of offensive”), but lots and lots of people streamed it anyway.
However, not all bad news for fans of the now canceled shows. Amazon MGM TV chief Vernon Sanders says the stories will continue as part of the Mothership Show.
What happens to Citadel?
Look at
Here’s Sanders: “After reviewing India and Italy, stories from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will be woven into the upcoming second season of the Mothership series Citadel. “
He continues: “While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, season 2 of Citadel will be our most exciting yet. With storytelling with high efforts, new additions to our amazing role crew and bold, filmmatic ambitions, the new season will elaborate on the emotional journeys from Nadia, Mason and Orlick against the merciless power that is Manticore. “
He also shared a premiere date or at least a premiere window: Q2 of 2026.
Writing was on the wall of spin-offs because those who the deadline report “have not been global outbreaks”. The two shows “have been waiting for words for their fate since the launch of their first seasons in September and December respectively.”
It also means the end of it, I slightly sarcastically described as a Citadel Filmatic universe of several connected shows set in different countries. It’s about the only show now, and hopefully it raises its game for Season 2.
