King Charles and the royal family have been invited to make use of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former residence of Frogmore Cottage.
A real estate expert criticized the monarch for leaving the property available when he said it is sending the wrong message in a time of financial battle.
Talking to People’s Channel, Robin Edwards said the empty royal residence has become a symbol of the ongoing debate on the expenses of the monarchy.
“When many people in the country struggle with the cost of living and housing costs make a royal residence be empty to help the institution’s public image,” he said.
Edwards suggested that the property could at least be used for staff house or as a Royal Guest House.
“At least the property could be functional, whether through staff house or short -term accommodation to visit royal guests,” the expert said.
“To let it sit unemployed seems to be a massive possibility and risks strengthening the view that the royal family is out of contact with the reality in which most people live.”
The house was given to the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex as a wedding gift from the deceased Queen Elizabeth II.
In March 2023, however, King Charles asked Sussexes, who left the royal family in 2020 and moved to the United States to leave the property.
