Princess Beatrice has finally opened up with daughter Athena’s early birth.
In an essay to VogueBeatrice shared an emotional update about her daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.
The daughter of Beatrice, whom she shares with husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, was born in January, several weeks early, weighing only four pounds and five ounces.
Beatrice, daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, admitted, “Nothing prepares you completely at the moment you realize your baby is coming to arrive early.”
She remembered to wonder, “Will she arrive healthy? Will there be complications? How do you want to juggle the rest of family life as you try to keep a little human and good?”
“You know that when your baby arrives, doctors and midwives will be there do everything they can to make sure she does it through the challenging first few days,” Beatrice continued. “But you have no idea how these things will play out, what happens then. The uncertainty leaves you with an overwhelming fear of the unknown.”
Beatrice revealed that routine scans had indicated the need for close surveillance, and doctors had warned her to prepare for an early delivery.
Despite the concerns, she expressed deep gratitude for the medical professionals who secured Athena’s safe arrival.
In addition, Princess Beatrice highlighted the importance of women’s health and noticed, “in many ways women’s health has been abandoned from the agenda for the longest time.”
Beatrice admitted that fortunately Athena was born health and added: “She was so small that it took more than a few weeks before the tears of relief dried and for life with our healthy baby to feel real. Her feet were so small – almost the same size as the paws of one of my older daughter’s soft rabbits.”
“I’m very happy to tell you that Athena is now doing really well, I have a few more answers to what happened, but still no precise explanation,” added Princess Beatrice.
In addition to Athena, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also share a daughter Sienna.
