Islamabad:

PML-N’s Punjab government has entered into a private special prosecutor to represent the prosecution in the Supreme Court in all cases in connection with May 9, 2023 incidents.

“Mr Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, Advocate Supreme Court, is hereby appointed as a special public prosecutor in accordance with section 18 of anti-terrorism, 1997 to represent the state in all cases in connection with May 09, 2023 incidents to the Supreme Court,” said a notification issued by the Punjab Office Law Saturday.

The announcement stated that a professional fee of RS200,000 per Petition/Case will be paid for the logical conclusion of each petition/case in the Supreme Court in Pakistan.

Naqvi was also one of the charges in the Cypher case, where PTI founder Imran Khan and Vice -President Shah Mahmood Qureshi were acquitted by Islamabad High Court.

An SC bench with three members led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will take the Punjab government petitions today (Monday) seeking cancellation of bail assigned to the accused May 9. Other members of the bench are Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.

Previously, Punjab further argued prosecutors for these cases for the bench.

The prosecution believes that High Court assigned bail for the accused persons without investigating important material. There are very limited chances of cancellation of bails. However, conciliation expects cases to be detained to High Court to examine all material.

PTI has already approached the Pointing Court of the Constitution of a Court Commission to investigate May 9 events. Former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, himself a Supreme Court’s lawyer, said he was implicated in as many as 32 cases in the wake of the 9th of May -kaos.

“Neither the indictment nor the Challan report gives any clear explanation of the specific charges against me. I was arrested in Islamabad and was named in these cases five months later, after receiving bail in other junk cases,” he said.

According to Chaudhry, even the evidence against former Prime Minister Imran Khan is absurd.

“Police claim that three of their constables were hiding in the living room of Imran Khan’s Lahore residence and overheard a conspiracy to attack sensitive buildings [in the event of his arrest].

“However, they do not explain why they did not inform their senior officers or take any preventative measures if they were aware of this alleged conspiracy three days in advance. The whole narrative and the evidence are obvious lies with discrepancies that were obviously visible on earth,” he added.

Fawad Chaudhry also expressed the wonder of why the Supreme Court prioritized hearing bail cancellation petitions over more material affairs, including his own petition, where he had called on the right to enforce his previous decision that only one case can be filed by Incident.
