Sargodha:
The reputed Doctor Dr. Sheikh Ahmad Mahmood was shot dead on Friday inside Sargodha’s Fatima Hospital in what seems to be a targeted attack. He was 58.
Dr. Mahmood, a general doctor and gastroenterology -specialist who belongs to minority ahmadiyya society, is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters and two sons. He remained affiliated with several private and charitable health institutions that last offer services at Fatima Hospital during a welfare initiative.
According to police reports, the gunman arrived at the hospital dressed in the uniform of the “Clean Punjab program” staff, bought a check-up slip and waited inside the hospital.
As soon as Dr. Mahmood stepped out of his office, opened the striker fire with a gun and shot him in the back and abdomen and critically damaged his internal organs. He was rushed to District Headquarters Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The striker fled from the stage after the fatal shooting.
CCTV recordings show that the doctor is wounded on the hospital floor, while the staff, visible panic and distressed, shrinked to demand an ambulance.
Sargodha DPO Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf, along with SP -Investigation and SP headquarters arrived at the scene when police launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities have promised that the perpetrator will soon be arrested.
