- An alleged benchmark has emerged for AMDS RX 9070 XT
- It suggests that the incoming RDNA 4 GPU could match RTX 4080
- This is another in a line of leaks indicating that this is the case
Another tip has been dropped by the fact that the AMDS RADEON RX 9070 XT graphics card will be more powerful than rumors previously indicated and that it may be equal to the RTX 4080.
WCCFECH reports that a gigabyte (gaming and) RX 9070 XT was highlighted in a benchmark by a user at Anandtech -Fora (GAAV87). This was a Furmark score of 20,732 points (345 images per second) in the OpenGL graphics test at 1080p resolution.
Take it now with more than the usual skepticism reserved for any such leaks, but if correct, this score would mean that the 9070 XT can offer a benefit level similar to RTX 4080 (in fact, the outskirts of Nvidia GPU will be a thrown).
However, extra care is needed here because the benchmark was run on Linux and these comparisons are drawn with RTX 4080 on Windows, so it’s not an apples-to-apples affair.
That said, there is another recent leak of 9070 XT with permission from Furmark, which showed that GPU reached about the same kind of performance (similar to the RX 7900 XTX, much in the RTX 4080 Ballpark, in other words). In this case, the graphics card was not named, but it was easy enough to share the clues to what GPU it was.
On top of this, another game of waste – this time alleged directly from AMD – also suggests that 9070 XT will settle on about this same level, so it can be competitive against RTX 5070 TI, in theory.
This fresh leak also results in some extra information relating to thermals, with 9070 XT apparently doing very well considering that Furmark is a stress test, which means it challenges GPU with a very demanding workload pushing the chip hard.
9070 XT apparently contains its hot levels to 55 degrees Celsius during this hard workout, which is commendable cool.
Analysis: Looks strong, albeit with hints at ‘Hopium’ on the price front
The result is that the RX 9070 XT looks very promising here, both in terms of raw performance and its ability to stay cool under pressure. It is worth noting that the Gaming OC graphics card shown in this latest leak is a mid-tier model from Gigabyte, so this is not its best cooling solution in action (though not an entry-level, it’s Windforce).
These are exciting revelations, albeit with warnings, and the fact that Furmark is certainly not 3Dmark (and besides, synthetic benchmarks go so far to estimate the performance of a GPU). Still, it is a more narrative metric than geekbonch graphics experiments, and when we talk about them, the easy notions that were recently presented via Geekbench expeles that RDNA 4 will not be so much to shout about, image speed.
Finally, it is worth remembering that a rumor last month was sent by YouTuber Moore’s Law is dead, that AMD, in development, targeted RX 9070 XT to be a touch faster than Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Founders Edition – which is the claim we see in all these leaks.
It feels to me that there is more than a grain of truth here, with all these rumors that are adjusted, but as always, let’s not be led away with speculation, even if it all seems to be a reasonably convincing way.
Furthermore, as I continue to turn on, no matter what the level of benefit for the 9070 models, AMD’s pricing of these new GPUs will be important – and we will see the full picture tomorrow, with pricing that will be revealed at AMD’s press event for RDNA 4.
I can’t wait and remain hopeful that Team Red will do the right thing and not just deliver a minor price cutting in relation to Nvidia’s pricing and total value proposition, but a big battle (a capital letters, so to speak from the Desktop GPU dog).
However, I have to acknowledge that there are rumors that suggest that AMD may be pushing MSRPs disappointing to make profits instead of taking the middle class nvidia. Hopefully it is wrong, and yes, there is a lot of hope of going on, I fully admit.
