- These updates follow April -Trørre Renewal of Proton VPN Windows, iOS and Android Apps
Proton VPN has just released a roadmap that outlines all the features and improvements it plans to introduce this summer.
What has already been evaluated among the best VPN services on the market is set to bring a long-awaited feature to its Linux and MacOS apps-split tunneling. This is a practical functionality that allows you to select specific sites and apps to redirect outside the VPN connection.
Divided tunneling and all the other updates (more details below) follows April -Trørre Renewal of Proton VPNs Windows, iOS and Android apps.
Divide tunneling into linux and macOS
Each time you connect to a virtual private network (VPN), your traffic is encrypted and directed through one of the many international VPN servers. This increases your online privacy by preventing unauthorized access to your online activities and forgery of your real IP address. However, such protection can cause friction with how certain sites and applications work.
This is where Divide tunneling comes in. The tool allows you to divide your connection and choose to route some traffic through the VPN tunnel while excluding others.
As Proton VPN’s product manager, Antonio Cesarano, explains in a blog post, this allows you to bypass censorship using a VPN connection to your browser while allowing your banking, streaming and public services apps to access the local Internet. You can also choose to use it for specific purposes, such as torrenting or games, without having to turn it on and off often.
While Windows, Android and Android TV users already have the opportunity to use shared tunneling, you will soon be able to activate this option on MacOS and Linux VPNs by going to the app settings.
More customization to all Apple users
Custom DNS Also set to land on Apple devices and add even more customization options.
As mentioned earlier, Proton VPN encrybs and resolves your Internet traffic. This includes Domain Name System (DNS) requests, which means that the request for your device automatically sends to your ISP DNS to connect to the IP address linked to a specific domain name on the site you want to visit.
“Custom DNS allows you to select one or more third-party DNS relicers instead, so you can access their advanced DNS filtration features, such as parental control and custom blocking lists,” explains Cesarano.
In the spring of this year, we rolled out 3,000 new servers along with new locations and improved content streaming. Our mobile apps saw an improvement in battery consumption and we have also upgraded Nethield’s ad blocking and phishing protection. Here’s the next 👇1/5July 8, 2025
Another long -awaited feature already available on Windows and Linux, Port -Win -Sending, Also coming very soon to the Mac VPN app.
Once enabled, this functionality provides external devices access to specific services or applications on your local network by directing traffic through your VPN server. This is advantageous as it can, for example, increase your speed when you download and share files while torrent.
Guest mode Also coming to iOS and iPados apps, which means you can get instantly connected without a proton account.
