- The PS5 themes with limited time are removed today
- Sony thanks fans for the “amazing response” on them
- As a result they come back in the future
Sony has confirmed that the limited time console themes that allow you to elaborate on your PS5 UI in an original PlayStation, PS2, PS3 or PS4 aesthetics are being removed today.
In a recent X / Twitter post, Sony fans thanked the “amazing response” to the themes, but confirmed that they will “leave” today. This is bad news if you were a fan of the unique look, but there is a silver lining here.
Thanks to the “positive response to these four themes” Sony is now “to do some work behind the scenes” to bring them back in the “coming months.” There is no clear time frame yet, but this will probably involve making them a permanent opportunity on the PS5 sometime later in the year.
Despite this, Sony also stated that “not planning to create additional themes in the future”, which is a massive shame. Many PS4 owners loved the ability to customize their console’s home screen, which has a wide range of both free and paid options available inspired by top games. Although it has been a very requested feature for the PS5, it seems that we are not looking at anything as comprehensive as the old system implemented soon.
Given the rather sparse look on the PS5 start screen, I certainly wouldn’t mind the ability to spice up things up a bit. At least the future return of these four retro themes is better than nothing.
