Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has launched a nationwide crash against individuals and companies involved in the illegal sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards.
According to a statement from PTA, the coordinated attacks are part of the ongoing efforts to limit telecommunications fraud and protect national security.
The operations were performed in several cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore and Sialkot.
Authorities targeted individuals and companies dealing with unauthorized sales and distribution of foreign SIM cards, which were reportedly used for false activities, non -verified communication and other criminal operations.
During the attacks, several suspects were arrested and a significant number of illegally activated SIM cards were seized. PTA and FIA emphasized that the unauthorized sale of such SIMs poses a serious threat to public security as they facilitate unspecified and anonymous communication.
The agencies confirmed their obligation to monitor and prevent the illegal trade in SIM cards and warned that strict action will continue against those who violate telecommunications.
