Islamabad:
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) began Monday Licensing of Virtual Private Network (VPN) Service providers according to the classroom frameworks to regulate data services in the country.
According to a PTA spokesman, the authority has approved applications from two companies for issuing classrooms for VPN services.
The initiative aims to facilitate companies in legally using VPNs while ensuring data security, privacy and compliance with the rules. “PTA is obliged to support organizations in responsible connection solutions,” the spokesman said.
Companies and individuals interested in getting a Class License for VPN services can apply via PTA’s official e-service portal.
It is worth noting that on December 7, 2024, PTA introduced a VPN registration facility via mobile numbers, enabling freelancers that do not have a static IP to detect and use VPN services.
“Freelancers can now register their mobile numbers for VPN use so they can work seamlessly on mobile data,” explained the PTA spokesman.
The initiative is part of PTA’s broader effort to promote the IT sector and simplify the VPN registration process.
The authority has so far registered over 31,000 VPNs that have approached previous challenges facing freelancers with static IP-based registration.
A classroom license allows more users to operate under an overall set of rules without requiring individual approvals. In December 2024, PTA resumed the issuance of classrooms for data services, specifically for VPN providers.
Companies that offer VPN and related services must get this license to operate legally in Pakistan.
