Lahore:
National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has shared its data with the country’s telekarel regulator – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) – which the latter is preparing to launch a crash against those using SIM cards issued to people who are now deceased.
PTA will block all such SIM cards as they are also used in various crimes, including financial fraud, online fraud as well as violent crimes. This major operation starts on June 30.
According to PTA sources, Nadra has given PTA detailed data that contains a list of all relevant identity cards that thousands of mobile phones are currently active. Based on the schedule suggested by Nadra, this operation will be performed in phases.
The disconnection of Mobile Sims begins on June 30 for those whose CNICs expired in 2017. The second phase starts on November 30, and in the final phase of December 31, all such mobile SIMs will be completely disabled.
Nadra officials have stated that if the relatives of deceased individuals or those whose CNICs have expired want to preserve Sims under their own names, they should update the items.
The identity cards of the deceased persons must be submitted to Nadra to ensure correct documentation. Otherwise, from June 30, PTA begins to block all Sims operating on the identity card of the expired or deceased individuals.
