Islamabad:
The opposition, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), showed five members of the National Assembly on Sunday to go against the party line during the vote on the 26th constitutional amendment in the National Assembly last October.
According to separate messages issued by PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the members of Aurangzeb Khichi, Zahoor Hussain Qureshi, Usman Ali, Mubarak Zeb and Ilyas Chaudhry are expelled. These independent legislators were supported by PTI in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The similarly formulated messages stated that these legislators violated the party’s instructions and voted for the 26th Constitutional amendment on October 21, 2024, while the party had unanimously decided to oppose the amendment.
“You are hereby declared to have violated your commitment, oath and loyalty to the party. You have acted in contradiction with the instructions of the party when you voted for 26. Constitutional (amendment) Bill 2024,” one of five messages sent to Qureshi said.
“And by [that] conduct [you] Has joined another parliamentary party in the National Assembly. You are therefore expelled from the party (PTI) immediately. It is unnecessary to add that you are also disqualified due to the above behavior, ”it added.
The 26th change was adopted by a two -third majority. Among the opposition parties, Jamati Breda-E-Islam (Jui) had supported the government after several rounds of negotiations. However, PTI chose to oppose the bill. Still, the government was able to get five members on its side.
Shortly after the bill was passed, PTI decided to take litigation against its lawmakers who had violated party politics. At that time, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said that these legislators had been elected independent; Therefore, they were not bound by any party decision.
PTI’s announcements on Sunday said that messages were issued to the disagree members of the National Assembly on November 5, 2024 to show reason why they “should not be declared to have rejected” from the party but “you did not respond to the message”.
The notifications also stated that these members deserved disqualification from being elected to representatives to join another party. The PTI chairman demanded by the National Assembly’s speeches to disqualify that these members.
Among the members expelled, Khichi was elected to the National Assembly from NA-159 Vehari-IV; Qureshi from NA-146 Khanewal-III; Usman Ali from Na.142, Sahiwal-II; Muhammad Ilyas Choudhry from Na.62, Gujrat-I and Mubarak Zeb from N.8, Bajaur.
