PTI files contempt pleasing in the visitor case

Islamabad:

PTI leader Shibli Faraz has filed a contempt for the court’s petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against a number of officials for violating a court decision, allowing the prison PTI founder Imran Khan to meet visitors twice a week.

In his petition, filed through Salman Akram Raja and Shoaib Shaheen, Shibli has claimed that a larger bench of IHC allowed Imran to meet his family members and party leader in Rawalpindis Adiala Prison on Tuesday and Thursday.

However, he complained that the prison administration did not comply with the court decision. The PTI leader, who is also the leader of opposition in the Senate, called on the right to initiate contempt procedures against various respondents, including secretary interiors, Punjab home secretary and Adiala Prison Superintendent.

On March 24, a three-member greater bench of IHC IHC IHC IHC’s IMRAN’s meeting with visitors to Adiala Prison, but also introduced a ban on visitors to talk to the media after such meetings.

The bench, led by functioning Chief Justice Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and including Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, noted that only these individuals could meet the PTI founder whose names were delivered by IMRAN’s coordinator Salman Akram Raja.

On March 27, the administration of Rawalpindi’s famous prison, where Imran Khan has been detained since September 2023, not PTI leaders the opportunity to meet the party’s founder.

On Thursday, April 3, the Adiala prison authorities once again refused to allow the PTI leader to meet Imran in the wake of the Eidul Fitr festivities.

PTI leaders refused access to Imran

The Adiala Prison Administration once again defied a court decision and refused Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) leaders access to their basic chairman, Imran Khan. This prompted the PTI leadership to seek legal intervention and demand the implementation of the court’s order and even suggested that the judges resign if they failed to enforce it.

On Thursday, PTI leaders, including Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, Aliya Hamza and Niaz Ullah Niazi, arrived at Adiala Prison for meeting Imran Khan. Despite the fact that the day reserved for meetings and Imran himself finishes visitors’ list, they were denied access.

In a speech with the media outside Adiala Prison, opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan expressed frustration over the denial. “We don’t know if instructions are followed to prevent party leaders and family members from meeting Imran Khan,” he said, adding that IMRAN hadn’t talked to his sons for over two and a half months, nor had he seen his sisters.

Ayub also expressed disappointment that Imran was not allowed to offer Eid beans, questioning: “What kind of Islamic State do we live in?” He accused the authorities of repeatedly committing disdain for court and expressed hope that the judges would ensure that their orders were implemented. “If the judges cannot enforce their orders, they should resign,” he added.

He further criticized the provincial government of Balochistan for hindering a PTI delegation from meeting GDP-M chief Akhtar Mengal and called it an unfair act. Ayub also commented on the deteriorating law and order situation and said, “We have repeatedly warned that the government had lost its writing in eight districts.”
