- Discussions in progress to remove controversial numbers.
- Suggested changes to be taken up with the Imran Khan prison.
- PTI US CHAPTER DIVIDED OVER APPROACH towards establishment.
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) is considering changes within its core and political committees, with discussions in progress among the top party leaders to remove controversial numbers such as Shahbaz Gill from these bodies.
According to the party’s insiders, the proposed changes will be discussed with the party’s imprisoned foundation chairman, Imran Khan, whose approval remains important for any major restructuring.
In a related development, PTI recently formally dissolved its foreign affairs and International Relations Committee. The committee, established earlier this year on January 28, included prominent figures such as Zulfi Bukhari, Sajjad Burki, Shahbaz Gill and Atif Khan.
The resolution was advertised through a review issued by Barrister Gohar Khan, who traded on IMRAN’s directives.
Sources reveal that the move came in response to concerns that were forwarded to Imran by some prominent US-based PTI activists. It is believed that activists have conveyed growing unrest over the direction of the committee, especially within PTI’s overseas chapters.
In particular, PTI’s US chapter is said to be shared over its approach to Pakistan’s military establishment. While some members have taken an aggressive attitude towards the military and its leadership, others are now in favor of dialogue and reconciliation.
This internal rift became more visible after a group of US -based doctors and business people recently visited Islamabad, where they reportedly met a high -level official as well as Khan in Adiala prison.
Their efforts, which were perceived as an attempt to repair ties between PTI and the military, withdrew criticism from Hardliners within the party’s diaspora.
Party leaders who favor approximation believe that meaningful dialogue with the establishment is unlikely, as long as Hawkish factions within PTI – and especially its social media wings – remain openly targeted at military leadership.
The potential removal of certain individuals from influential positions within PTI can signal a wider strategy to calibrate the party’s approach in the power of future political developments. The party’s most serious effort is to get relief to its imprisoned founder chairman.
