Peshawar:
At the invitation of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was held a major protest outside the Election Commission at Pakistan’s (ECP) office in Peshawar.
Organized by PTI, the demonstration drew a large crowd, including party workers and members of the provincial assembly. In the case of the protest, the authorities closed the ECP office with barbed wire and deployed a heavy police quota to maintain order.
Chaning slogans to support Imran Khan, PTI supporters demanded the immediate release of their party’s founder and other detained members.
By tackling the protesters, PTI Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar, special assistant to the KP Department of Population Welfare Malik Liaqat Ali Khan, MNA Atif Khan and other party leaders claimed national institutions undermined the public mandate.
“The power and privileges of the institutions exist because of the people; therefore, they must respect the public’s vote,” speakers emphasized.
Junaid Akbar said PTI workers were ready to mobilize in Adiala Prison or D-CHOWK every time Imran Khan calls.
He accused institutions of removing the political space of PTI and unfairly to feel his peaceful workers as terrorists.
“We are here today to bring shame to the shameless,” he declared and branded the ECP as the “Corruption Commission” and a “Guardian of Defectors.”
Daming PTI’s targeting in the foreign financing case, the leaders questioned why financial control of other political parties remained pending.
They claimed that peaceful protests took place nationwide to regain what they described as a “stolen mandate.”
The speakers condemned Imran Khan’s prison as unfair and demanded his immediate release and called him the nation’s hopes and a symbol of democratic struggle.
They promised that the struggle for democracy, constitutional supremacy and the rule of law would continue.
They called for litigation against recurring officers who were allegedly involved in widespread rigging during the parliamentary elections.
“PTI candidates won by a clear majority, but the ECP manipulated the ECP with others with other results to secure their defeat,” they claimed, accusing recurring officers of having conspirators of changing the results consciously. “Such an obvious rigging would even be ashamed of a dictator,” they said.
They criticized the role of the ECP and accused it of announcing prescribed judgments and respecting people’s vote.
“Those who once demanded respect for the vote are now glorifying the trunk,” they said. The speakers maintained that if electronic voting machines (EVMS) had been used, rigging would have been exposed to within an hour.
They also claimed that ECP, PML-N and other institutions worked together to strip PTI of its rightful seats.
“Despite receiving the public vote, the PTI candidates were sidelined due to poor planning and open rigging. The seats were awarded candidates from other parties,” they claimed.
