ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI:

The PTI has written a letter to the Senate chairman demanding the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to review what it termed “solitary detention” and “violations of fundamental rights” of party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, as well as his wife Bushra Bibi, in Adiala jail.

In its letter, the party said senators were constitutionally empowered to review the conditions of any citizen in custody, especially a former prime minister and an elected member of the National Assembly. PTI proposed the names of Senators Ali Zafar, Hamid Khan, Azam Swati and Mishal Azam to the parliamentary committee.

“All senators wish to express serious concern over the illegal solitary confinement and continued violation of the fundamental rights of President Imran Khan,” the letter read.

“The conditions in which he is being held raise serious constitutional, legal and humanitarian concerns,” it added. The party said it was saddened by the “isolation and treatment of Bushra Bibi”. “Subjecting a woman to mental and physical hardship is a violation of basic human rights.
