Lahore:
Following the intervention of the Lahore High Court (LHC), the District Administration of Lahore finally informed PTI on Thursday night that it could not hold a rally in Minar-E-Pakistan tomorrow, February 8.
PTI had announced a public collection on February 8 – the first anniversary of the last parliamentary elections, which the party describes as very rigged – last week in January. In this regard, party leader Alia Hamza had sought a formal permission from Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC).
Alia later moved the LHC considering a delay from the district administration in the decision on the case. An LHC bench consisting of Justice Farooq Haider on Thursday morning picked up his plea.
After a brief hearing, the Court ordered the authorities to decide PTI’s request at 1 p.m. 17 Thursday. PTI’s legal team was present at the DC office until late at night, but later an order was circulated on behalf of a district’s intelligence committee.
According to the circular, the “giving permission to the PTI collection on the specified date would not be possible”. This decision was primarily driven by the fact that the month of February is saturated with a number of high -profile events of national and international importance.
These events include the triangular ODI series; The first joint CPA Asia and Southeast Asia Regional Conference 2025; The 9th Faiz festival; The horse and cattle show 2025; ICC Men’s Champions Trophy; Lahore Literary Festival and Raiwind Losligthi Ijtima.
It said these events require extensive security schemes and the implementation of law enforcement authorities. Therefore, following recommendations from the District Intelligence Committee, Lahore Dc Syed Musa Raza PTI’s application rejected.
“To maintain the law and order situation … The Punjab government has requested the services of the Pakistani Army and Rangers in Lahore to conduct these important events in a peaceful way in the wake of the recent threat alarms,” it said.
According to the circular, the larger Iqbal park, where Minar-E-Pakistan is located, is an advanced park that has historical significance.
“A political collection will destroy the facilities and plantation in the park. [The] Previous behavior of PTI [during] Different political gatherings [is a testimony in this regard]. PTI used to violate the conditions of such occasions and the participation of proclaimed offenders on stage, “it added.
