PTI says rally ‘only in swabi’ to avoid confrontation

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will not participate in any confrontation or unrest on February 8, marking the first anniversary of last year’s parliamentary elections.

PTI -General Secretary Salman Akram Raja told the media in Islamabad that the party would only hold a rally in Swabi, while protests would take place at Tehsil and Union Council levels. He clarified that there were no plans for confrontation or chaos.

The former reigning party had sought permission to hold a demonstration in Minar-E-Pakistan on February 8, but the Deputy Commissioner rejected the request and refused approval of the collection.

“The decision not to allow the rally to be made to maintain the law and order situation,” DC said in a statement and also mentioned that important events planned in Lahore on February 8, such as a cricket match, a International Speech Conference and a Horse and Cattle show.

The government official said thousands of security staff had already been deployed because of these events.

Meanwhile, government officials, including police personnel prior to the event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been excluded from participating in political gatherings and events.

The provincial police have also been asked to refrain from attending or facilitating such events.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced a full-scale protest on the occasion of “Black Day” tomorrow, promising to secure the release of PTI founder Imran Khan at all costs.

He said he had twice overcome all obstacles to reaching D-CHOWK to the leader’s release and emphasized that any future negotiations with the government would only take place on the directives of the PTI founder.

The former reigning party, after its negotiations with the government, fell apart, announced protest meetings against 2024 vote, which, together with other opposition parties, has again decorated to be damaged with rigging, resulting in alleged theft of his mandate.

Imran Khan-founded party’s completed negotiations after the latter failure to form a Court Commission to investigate the May 9 riots and November 2024 protests in accordance with its charter of requirements.

PTI KP President Junaid Akbar has also warned about agitation against the reigning coalition and said the party’s desire to keep dialogue with the government was misunderstood as its weakness.

In recent months, PTI has taken the streets on different occasions. The party’s protests and exhibitions in Islamabad last year resulted in a crash against party workers with leaders facing several cases.
