Ptis Aliya Hamza, others arrested over the youth convention in Pindi

Rawal Pindi: A tense situation broke out in Rawalpindi around midnight after police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf’s (PTI) Cheepanizer of Punjab Aliya Hamza and more workers and moved them to more police stations in the city.

With the police sources quoting a PTI convention, the necessary permission from the authorities as the rationale behind the arrests, Hamza, along with eight other workers, was moved to Civil Line’s police station.

PTI leader Seemabia Tahir, while confirming Hamza’s arrest, has said PTI Punjab’s chef forganizer was held at the woman’s police station and five of the party’s workers had been moved to the airport police station.

“We had a youth convention in Rawalpindi today from where [Aliya] Hamza was arrested. It is our constitutional right to protest or hold a convention we have not acted against the law, ”Tahir said.

Her statement follows the previous rejection of Hamza’s arrest when she had previously said the party leader had gone to save the arrested workers who led to her own arrest.

Meanwhile, PTI Workers’ arrest led to a tense situation after a large number of PTI supporters gathered outside the Civil Lines police station to protest the police action.

A case has been registered against Hamza and other PTI workers at the airport police stations with provisions relating to incentive, resisting the police, blocking the road and interfering with official tasks.

The case, while claiming the suspects protested in Dhok Kamal yours by blocking the road and also resorting to stones pelt against the police say Hamza, Muhamid Zahid, Noman Aslam, Adil Munir and Shamim Aftab have been arrested by police.

The development marks the latest incident in the over a year long PTI’s traction with the authorities with regard to the previously ruling party’s bid to hold public gatherings- with the government launching a crash against those quoting, including security and permit-related reasons.

The Imran Khan-founded party has time again the police and the government’s actions against those who accuse them of depriving the party of political space.

On Thursday, Khan’s sisters – Aleema Khan, Noreen Khanum and Uzma Khanum – together with the National Assembly’s opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan, Sunni Ite Had Council (SIC) Head Sahibzada Hamid Raza and Punjab opposition leader Ahmed Khmed Khan Bhachar detained by police from a checkpost near Adiala Jail.

The arrests came after the PTI leaders dealt with a verbal shift with the police so as not to be allowed to meet the PTI founder jailed in the Adiala prison.

The shift came over a week after PTI workers collided with law enforcers near Rawalpindis Adiala prison, with police withheld several workers and leaders.
