Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akbar is deducted as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), just four months after taking over the role.

In a video declaration, Akbar confirmed that he submitted his resignation to PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. He said he fully accepted the party’s decision and expressed unshakable loyalty to PTI founder Imran Khan.

“No matter what decision is made by the party or Imran Khan, I will not hesitate with even a minute and will accept it wholeheartedly,” he said. “Titles don’t matter to me. If Khan even asks me to resign as party president or resign from parliament, I would do it without question,” he added.

Akbar said that although he has not yet received any direct message from Imran Khan through official channels, he had already submitted his resignation.

When he looks ahead, he said he has called for a meeting with all PTI office carriers from all over the country on May 15. “The questions about our movement will be ended that day,” he said.

Akbar was elected unopped as PAC chairman in January. In the same month, he was appointed by the PTI founder as president of the party’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter and replaced chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

While the PAC Presidency is traditionally held by the opposition leader or their nominees, there is no legal requirement that enforces this convention.

The position had remained free since the February 2024 parliamentary Akbar’s name was eventually completed for the role.
