Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday has ordered the removal of the medical superintendent (MS) at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, after a surprise visit where she found widespread wrong management and poor patient care.

During the visit, patients and their companions filed several complaints about the medicine’s inaccessibility, poor hygiene conditions and lack of medical facilities.

CM went through various departments and engaged directly with patients to hear their complaints.

In one case, a young girl shared tearfully how she spent the night driving between pharmacies to buy medicine for her ailing mother.

The main minister, visibly moved by the account, assured the girl that an immediate action would be taken.

“The people come here with hope, but no one is there to help them. Those responsible for this negligence will be held responsible, ”she said.

Patients in the cardiology department complained about the presence of insects, while others reported a lack of syringes, canes and other essential supplies.

CM instructed the hospital staff to carry out a comprehensive warehouse control and ensure the immediate delivery of medical supplies.

Maryam Nawaz convened an emergency meeting in the hospital and instructed the health secretary to submit a detailed report on the hospital’s affairs.

She also ordered a complete renovation plan for the plant and approval of unique medicine supply fees.

“Administration seems completely disconnected from the grounded reality. If your loved ones were in this state, you wouldn’t tolerate it,” she noted.

CM also instructed health officials to conduct a thorough examination of the hospital’s management and hold them responsible.

During the visit, she met several patients, including a couple from Sindh and a woman from Gujranwala, who offers comfort and assured them for quick help.

The Punjab government plans to review the hospital administration to improve patient care and ensure the availability of essential medicines.
