The Punjab government has launched a major crash on bird activity near Lahore Airport to improve aviation security and declare more neighborhoods “no bird zones” under a new initiative.
The directive issued by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz involves coordination between the city’s district administration, Punjab Wildlife Department and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Localities including Eastern Bypass, Manawan, Hospital Dahori Wala, PKLI, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Ichhra and Chah Miran are among those located under strict surveillance. Officials said these areas have been fenced in for aviation to create protective airspace for commercial flights.
Bird strikes, especially during start and landing, are a sustained safety hazard. The new policy aims to mitigate this by reducing the bird’s presence around low -altitude flights.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has been appointed to oversee the mobilization of Punjab’s first dedicated wildlife. The Wildlife Department has already ordered its Field Rangers to enforce new restrictions.
Strict rules are introduced for nearby slaughterhouses, poultry farms, bakeries and leather treatment units. These companies must now comply with environmental checks, including a ban on open disposal of animal waste and hides.
In addition, feeding of birds in public areas, on the rooftops and the sanctuaries has been banned. Residents are also limited from holding or flying a large number of pigeons.
Waste dumping near the airport has been banned and covered waste bins are now mandatory in specific zones. Officials warned that any activity that attracts birds in these areas will be treated as a breach of public security.
