Punjab Govt provides life retirement to widows

The Punjab government has raised the provincial minimum wage to RS40,000 per year. Month and secured life pension for widows of state employees. The reforms were adopted during the 28th cabinet meeting, the chairman of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where an extensive 130-point agenda was approved.

The cabinet approved the award of 1,220 apartments to industrial workers in Sunder, Kasur and Taxila Labor Colonies to be distributed through voting while firmly rejecting proposals to charge workers for housing. It also instructed officials to take immediate steps to construct another 3,000 apartments at no cost to these workers.

Significant wage reform was also approved with a uniform minimum monthly salary of RS40,000, which is set to 102 categories of skilled, semi-qualified and other workers.

In recognition of flood rescue efforts, CM RS50,000 announced bonuses for the rescue worker, while pricing the agency’s performance and emphasizing the government’s obligation to support front -line staff.

The workers’ safety was also treated through the adoption of Punjab Work Environment Rules 2024, which marked a first in the province. Maryam ordered the creation of a specialized enforcement force to ensure compliance with high risk sectors such as construction and sewer operations.

She emphasized that it is not sufficient to adopt laws – implementation and enforcement at all levels, as the life of poor workers is invaluable.
