The Punjab government has approved a new ration card scheme aimed at providing financial support to 1.5 million workers and daily employees throughout the province, officials said on Thursday.

The decision was completed in a cabinet meeting that was chairman of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, where it was agreed that eligible workers would receive a monthly scholarship of RS 10,000 under the new initiative.

The program is designed to relieve financial pressure on low -income households and is part of a wider set of reforms approved by the cabinet.

In a parallel development, the cabinet changed food grain’s license control order, 1957, making it mandatory for flour mills to obtain at least 25% of their wheat supply through regulated sources.

In addition, changes in Punjab Consumer Protection Act, 2005, were approved. These amendments provide powers for additional session judges to act as consumer law authorities, which improves legal supervision for consumer rights.

The ration scheme closely follows the heels of the launch of the provincial’s smart environmental protection strength – a groundbreaking environmental initiative led by the Minister of Chief. The high -tech force includes mobile laboratories, drone monitoring and air quality monitoring tools in real time aimed at limiting pollution and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The two schemes highlight the Punjab government’s multisector approach to reform and welfare that focuses on both economic inclusion and environmental sustainability.
