Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday after a call with US President Donald Trump, efforts to end the war in Ukraine were on the right path and that Moscow was ready to work with Ukraine at a memorandum about future peace agreement.
Putin thanked Trump for supporting resumption of direct conversations between Moscow and Kyiv and said Trump noticed Russia’s support for peace, though the central question was how to move towards peace.
“We are agreed with the president of the United States that Russia will propose and are ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum about a possible future peace agreement that defines a number of positions, such as the principles of settlement, the time of a possible peace agreement,” Putin told journalists near the Black Sea Sochi.
If relevant agreements are obtained, there may be a ceasefire, Putin said, adding that direct conversations between Russia and Ukraine “give reason to believe that we are generally on the right path.”
“I would like to note that Russia’s position is largely clear. The most important thing for us is to eliminate the basic causes of this crisis,” Putin said. “We just have to determine the most effective ways of moving toward peace.”
Able to the social network of his truth said Trump that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to “immediately” launch a ceasefire.
“Just finished my two-hour call with President Vladimir Putin from Russia. I think it went very well,” he added.
“Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations against a truce and, more importantly, an end to the war.”
Trump added that “the tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent.”

After the European leaders’ phone calls on Trump on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron said at X: “Tomorrow, President Putin will show that he wants peace by accepting the 30-day unconditional ceasefire proposed by President Trump and supported by Ukraine and Europe.”
Putin is on duty to a ceasefire and says that battle cannot be paused until conditions are fulfilled, including a stop for western arms for Kiev.
European leaders say Putin is not serious with peace. They worry that Trump can give up support for Kiev, forces it to accept a punitive peace agreement that would leave Ukraine Shorn of one fifth of his territory and lacks a strong security guarantee against possible future attack.
Before Trump returned to office this year, Washington joined Western European leaders and Ukraine in describing Russia’s invasion as an imperial-style land grip.
Trump’s administration has moved US policy against accepting some of Russia’s account of the conflict, as Moscow says it was launched due to a security threat from Ukraine’s operation to the west.
