A quick look at Boston Red Sox’s list from their World Series-winning team in 2018 can make the average baseball fan Quizical compared to the 2025 troop.

Rafael Devers was their third Baseman, Mookie Betts played the right field, and Xander Bogaerts was shortstop, not to mention players like Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr. And JD Martinez also strengthened the lineup as the team defeated Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

On Sunday, one of the last core pieces of the layout was processed.

Red Sox traded Devers to San Francisco Giants for Jordan Hicks, Jose Bello, James Tibbs III and Kyle Harrison – an appointment that stunned the baseball world. Despite his philosophical differences with Red Sox, Devers .272 hit with a .905 ops and 15 home runs. He led the American league in trips with 56 and had played the most games in Majors (73).

Betts, who Red Sox traded to Dodgers, offered his thoughts after the team’s victory over Giants on Sunday.

“I just thought it was crazy,” he told the Athletic. “Nothing to say really, it’s just crazy.”

Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw also responded to the trade, which he was told during an ESPN segment about the wild feature.

“What about that trade? It’s crazy,” he said. “Buster really does! Not Olney; Buster Posey does it really over there. Good for Buster, man. He goes for it. I will consider (DEVERS) one of probably the 10 best men in the game at worst. He is definitely a game election.”

Almost seven years later, Red Sox operates with a completely different list than the one they had when they lifted the commissioner’s trophy.
