Lahore:
Pakistan Railways registered a total of 45 train-related incidents in the first six months of 2025, elaborating the concerns of the sustained security and infrastructure challenges across the National Railway Network.
Despite all available resources and the introduction of multiple security measures, PR has not been able to prevent the derailment of passenger and freight trains or avert recurring accidents.
The frequent derailments have not only caused distress to passengers, but have also disturbed business operations across the country. The latest terrorist attacks on trains have worsened the crisis further.
According to official statistics, from January 1 to June 15, a total of 45 train -related accidents occurred, including derailments and other events. The accidents included 22 derisions involving passenger trains, 20 involving freight trains and three various events.
Among the most alarming events was the kidnapping event involved Jaffer Express, who has raised serious concerns about passengers and train safety.
Several people sustained injuries as a result of these accidents, while Pakistan Railway Infrastructure suffered financial damage to tens of thousands of millions of rupees.
One of the most serious events took place on May 21 when Shalimar Express, who traveled from Karachi to Lahore, collided with a brick -loaded carriage at an unmanned level transition near Sahianwala Darul Ehsan. The impact caused all 15 coaches in the train to derail.
On May 30, Rehman Baba Express met with an accident after striking a wagon at another unmanned level transition. On June 1, Pakistan Express narrowly avoided a major disaster as a wagon under its dining car broke off near Mubarakpur.
On June 14, three separate train -related events found. Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, on the way to Peshawar, had six bogies derailed at Kandhkot. On the same day, Allama Iqbal Express avoided disaster when a malfunction was reported in its brake block while the train was moving. Meanwhile, Thal Express collided with a car.
On June 18, Jaffar Express was targeted in a sabotage attack near Jacobabad, where explosive material was used to blow up the railway track, causing five coaches to derail.
In addition to these incidents, air conditioning that worked in moving trains and overheating the engine led to several trains being stopped in the middle of Journey.
