Railway Minister assigns a year’s task of cutting travel time on ML-1

The federal minister of railways Hanif Abbasi has issued one year of directive to eliminate engineering restrictions on the ML-1 railway line, in an attempt to reduce travel variety across the most important routes, Express News reported.

Chairman of a meeting at the Railway’s headquarters in Lahore on Monday, Abbasi was informed of infrastructure development and reviewed the performance of various railway departments. He instructed authorities to take immediate steps towards improving travel times along ML-1, Pakistan’s most important railway corridor.

The Minister also instructed the work with Karachi – Hyderabad (Kemari – Hyderabad) began without delay and called for the acceleration of track rehabilitation projects.

Abbasi set specific deadlines for infrastructure improvements and instructs the project director to deliver ready to install sleepers within six months. He also called for a two-year project to be completed within a year and that four tampers became operational at the end of the year.

With reference to Shehbaz Sharif’s model for quick-track development from his days as Punjab CM, Abbasi called on Railways administration to follow and increase the good income while addressing revenue leaks.

To improve efficiency and transparency, the minister announced upgrades to passenger trains online reservation system and ordered the freight train ordering process to be fully digitized, eliminating human interference.

Abbasi requested a list of unauthorized residents of rail colonies and introduced a complete ban on retired officials and non -related persons who stayed in railway houses.

He also issued a performance goal: Obtain 90-95% punctuality in train operations within three months. “I personally want to monitor train puncture – no train will be delayed for anyone, including the minister,” he emphasized.

Additional directives included improvement of cleanliness and food quality on trains. ABBASI also announced that he would conduct surprise visits to stations and offices-except prior notice or staff to assess the benefit on Earth.

Monthly Performance Reviews for Divisional Superintendent’s (DSS) are enforced. The meeting also approved the installation of elevators at all major railway stations, starting with rawalpindi.
