Faisalabad:
Federal Minister of Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced that major projects, including the digitization of Pakistan Railways, its upgrade and outsourcing, are intended for completion this year.
He added that Faisalabad Railway Station will be upgraded to modern international standards within the next 45 days.
In a speech with the media during his visit to Faisalabad Railway Station on Saturday, Abbasi said that under the prime minister’s vision, both short and long-term projects were starting nationwide to modernize railway companies, promote regional connection and provide world-class facilities for passengers.
He said that under the digitization drive, the ticket system is fully automated, the train tracking system was operational and ATM machines are installed at larger stations.
Abbasi noted that in collaboration with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Wi-Fi services were introduced at 40 railway stations throughout the province. The initiative has begun from Lahore and will soon expand to Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities.
He revealed that the outsourcing process will be completed by September 30, covering nine to eleven passenger trains, freight trains, rest houses, special salons, hospitals, schools and other facilities aimed at improving service quality and increasing PR’s revenue.
The Minister added that special salons previously reserved for government officials were now open to rent to the public at reasonable prices. App
