Rawalpindi sees a fresh rise in food prices at the start of the New Year

After the start of the new year, prices of food items including vegetables, fruits, meat and bakery products have witnessed an uncontrolled rise in Rawalpindi.

Bakeries across the city have raised the prices of buns, tarts, biscuits and bread by 20 to 30 percent and have started charging new rates.

Chicken is sold for Rs.700. per kg, eggs at Rs.350. per dozen, mutton at Rs 2,400. kg, beef at Rs 1,500. per kg, ghee and cooking oil at Rs 500-510. per litre, sugar at Rs 190-200. 2,500–2,850 Rs. per kg, white chickpeas at Rs.430. per kg, gram lentils at Rs 360 per kg and moss lentils at Rs 550 per kg.

Rice is priced at Rs 400 per kg, milk at Rs 220 per litre, yogurt at Rs 240 per kg, new potatoes at Rs 50 per kg, old potatoes at Rs 100-120 Rs 100 per kg, onions at Rs 100 per kg, okra at Rs 350 per kg, ginger at Rs 5 per kg, garlic at Rs 5 per kg, peas at Rs 150 per kg kg, carrots at Rs 90 per kg, radish at Rs 50 per kg, green chillies at Rs 120 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs 110 per kg and round gourd at Rs 120 per kg.

Apples are sold at Rs 200-400 per kg, pomegranates at Rs 500-700 per kg, grapes at Rs 600-700 per kg, papayas at Rs 300, citrus fruits at Rs 200-250 per dozen, bananas at Rs 150-200 per dozen and bananas at Rs 200-200 per dozen.
