Reinstated HEC Director refused entry into the Embed

Islamabad:

A local court in Islamabad ordered reintroduction of Dr. Ziaul Qayyum as CEO of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Despite the court’s orders, however, the HEC administration does not allow him to enter the premises.

Dr. Ziaul Qayyum arrived the HEC headquarters to resume the charge in the light of the court’s decision, but was unable to formally assume the office. According to sources, security staff had been implemented by all entrances of the HEC Secretariat. When Dr. Qayyum tried to enter the premises, his vehicle was excluded from entry.

All entrance and exit gates in the HEC building were reportedly locked, and security officials informed Dr. Qayyum that they had been instructed by the senior authorities not to allow vehicles or individuals to enter.

Sources confirmed that a local Islamabad court had suspended the previous orders that removed Dr. Qayyum from Embed during a hearing Saturday. The written court decision was issued the day after, based on which Dr. Qayyum continued to HEC for reintroduction. However, he was denied access to the building.

In a speech with Express Pakinomist at the gate, Dr. Qayyum that he was abused and harassed by the port staff who denied him entry despite court decisions. “No one has authority to defy a court decision,” he said.

Sources also revealed that the CEO’s office had been locked and that all vehicle entrance to the HEC premises had been suspended since morning. Later in the afternoon, Dr. Qayyum back to HEC with a certified copy of the court’s decision, but was still unable to officially take responsibility for his position.
