With only two days left before the deadline of illegal foreign residents and Afghan citizenship (ACC) holders to leave Pakistan, the authorities confirmed on Saturday that the repatriation process will be performed without abuse. The government has assured that food and health facilities are arranged for those who return. However, strict litigation will follow against individuals who remain in Pakistan beyond the deadline. It is relevant to note that under the Government’s Directive, all undocumented foreign nationals and ACC holders must leave the country before March 31. In March 28, the number of Afghan citizens who had left Pakistan continues to rose to 882,768, and the process continues at full pace. It is relevant to note that a high -level meeting on Friday was informed that the government has completed the preparations to withhold and deport a particular category of Afghan citizens when on March 31 for voluntary repatriation expires. President of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was informed the meeting that all necessary events had been introduced to repatriate ACC holders. Officials stated that possession centers have been established to accommodate Afghan citizens before their deportation, equipped with food and health facilities. Naqvi said the federal government was closely coordinated with provincial authorities to ensure a smooth repatriation process. He assured that Islamabad would extend full support to the provinces of the operation. Meanwhile, the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported an increase in the number of Afghan citizens returning to their homeland – either voluntarily or through deportation. The report noted that the number of recurring Afghans in the third week of March was 102% higher than those who left Afghanistan during the same period. According to IOM’s flow surveillance of Snapshot, 73,364 people entered Afghanistan, while 36,166 Afghans left the country in the same timeframe. The report attributed this unusual increase in movements from both Pakistan and Iran to voluntary returns of Afghan citizens. Compared to the previous week, the inflow to Afghanistan also increased by 2%, while the outflow fell by 13%, highlighting the ongoing trend of repatriation.
