Islamabad:
During this year’s monsoon, heavy floods occurred in Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab Rivers. Nationwide, the floods caused 1,037 deaths with 509 deaths reported in KP and 322 in Punjab.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday informed the National Assembly Standing Committee for Planning and Developing Recent Floods
Chairman of MNA Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani was called to review the agenda’s goods related to the recent flood damage, the extent and execution of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) and flooding projects in Balochistan.
NDMA officials told the panel that 1,066 people generally sustained injuries. Twenty -seven districts in Punjab were affected.
The planning secretary told the committee that the work is going on to prepare estimates of the financial losses caused by the floods.
The preliminary assessment was expected to be completed early next week. He also said the government had also contacted donor agencies in relation to flood damage.
The floods that hit the country this year have so far caused an affluent RS3,856 billion in compensation, while the economy is facing a further RS740 billion in potential losses, officials revealed on Thursday.
