The criticism of the British royal family has intensified after a BBC report said public funding for the royal household has tripled in real terms since 2012.
According to the BBC, the increase in funding was largely driven by repairs and building work at Buckingham Palace.
Anti-Monarchy Group, Republic, has used the report to burn his campaign against King Charles and his family and demand the removal of the Monarchy from the UK.
The group highlights the report and the criticism it has drawn on its social media accounts, especially X, former Twitter.
It also held a demonstration at Trafalgar Square, London, and called for the king to be replaced with a elected democratic head of state.
Meanwhile, Republic’s CEO, Graham Smith, appeared on British television station GB News and targeted Prince William, the eldest son of King Charles and heir to the British throne.
He said “Part of the problem with them and part of the problem with William who is in line to be the next monarch is that he is incredibly lazy. He doesn’t do anything.”
Smith said, “In the last month he did about four days of work. When I say work, I mean to show up and wander with people. Most of it is done in or near their houses.
He added, “They cost us. They cost us half a billion a year. For a whole family that we don’t need, including people that most people would never have heard of, they are all included in these costs.”
