Bachelors and tourists without families will be barred from entering Mall Road, GPO Chowk, surrounding areas
MURREE:
The district administration has imposed Section 144 ahead of the New Year celebrations, creating difficulties for tourists visiting the hill station.
Under Section 144, the administration can ask people to stop a certain action or follow certain restrictions (such as banning gatherings, restricting access to an area, restricting movement, etc.). It can be for one person or for the general public in a specific area (like Mall Road / GPO Chowk in Murree).
During major festivals, a large number of tourists usually go to Murree. The administration has enforced strict restrictions this year. Access to Mall Road will be restricted and only families will be allowed on New Year’s Eve. Bachelors and tourists without families will be barred from entering Mall Road, GPO Chowk and surrounding areas.
The move has sparked concern and frustration among tourists who have called on higher authorities to withdraw Section 144. They recalled that in previous years, tourists were allegedly ill-treated and detained under the pretext of Section 144.
The enforcement of Section 144 during the festive season has caused serious inconvenience and has drawn strong reactions from public and social circles. As in previous years, a large number of tourists from across the country have arrived in Murree to celebrate the New Year, but the sudden imposition of restrictions has led to hardship, mental stress and disappointment.
