- ShinyHunters says it exploited the Anodot breach to hit Rockstar Games
- The group demands a ransom by April 14, 2026 or will leak stolen files
- Rockstar confirms limited access to non-material data, no impact on players
Rockstar Games is the latest victim to have its data stolen through the Anodot supply chain attack carried out by the ShinyHunter cybercrime gang against “dozens of companies”.
ShinyHunters is giving Rockstar until April 14 to pay the ransom demand or they will release the stolen files to the dark web. But if you were hoping that the bad guys would release the source code or a demo version of the game, it most likely won’t happen.
Rockstar confirmed the breach to The Cybersec Guruand said the stolen data was not that important, noting “this incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”

“No Influence”
“We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material corporate information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach,” the company said.
Unfortunately, until ShinyHunters releases the data, or Rockstar comes forward with more details, it’s impossible to know what the nature of the files really is, or if there’s any sensitive or contact data inside.
News recently broke that Anodot, an AI-powered cloud-based analytics platform, was breached by the notorious ransomware group ShinyHunters. The criminals managed to find the company’s authentication tokens, which gave them access to the customer’s Snowflake accounts.
They also tried to access Salesforce accounts, but were apparently blocked before getting through.
“Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances were compromised thanks to Anodot.com. Pay or leak,” ShinyHunters reportedly told the company.
“This is a final warning to reach out before April 14, 2026 before we leak, along with more annoying (digital) issues coming your way. Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”
For those who don’t know the name, Rockstar is behind some of the biggest names in the gaming industry such as Grand Theft Auto (GTA), Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne and many others.
It is currently working on GTA VI, whose release date is scheduled for the end of 2026, arguably one of the biggest and most anticipated game launches of the decade.
ShinyHunters has been active in cybercrime for some time with previous targets including Microsoft, Ticketmaster, Cisco and AT&T.
