Roger Ver allegedly near the US tax settlement

Early Bitcoin Investor and Attorney Roger Ver is close to settling charges of tax fraud with the US Ministry of Justice, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Often known as “Bitcoin Jesus” because of his early evangelization for the crypto, Ver was indicted in April last year and arrested in Spain on accusations that he could not file tax returns on capital gains he made after selling “tens of thousands” by Bitcoins and abandoned US citizenship. Ver fought for his extradition to the United States and filed a lawsuit earlier this summer.

According to Times, the proposed solution is subject to change, but sees Ver paying about $ 48 million for the taxes he allegedly owed. It has not yet been filed or approved by the federal judge who oversees the case.

A spokesperson for the US Ministry of Justice Los Angeles office who filed the indictment referred Coindesk to DOJ’s most important offices in Washington, DC, a spokesman for the DC Office did not immediately return a request for comment. Ver did not return a request for comment.

Ver told Times he couldn’t comment.

The court Docket shows that there is a consultation scheduled for December 15, 2025.

Ver tapped Roger Stone, an associate by US President Donald Trump, to lobby for his help to resolve the case, according to a lobbying company filed earlier this year.

Trump has pardoned a number of other crypto figures since the re -taking of the office as president earlier this year, including Ross Ulbricht, Arthur Hayes and other founders of Bitmex – as well as Bitmex himself, after the company has previously pleaded guilty to violating the law of banking secret.

Changpen “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance, has also applied for a presidential pardon after soning four months in prison after his guilty plea tied to Binance’s compliance with money laundering.
