- Romero Games has announced that funding for its next, unannounced game is drawn by his publisher
- More employees have now taken to social media to say they have been laid off from Romero games because of Microsoft’s recent cuts
- A former employee says that “the whole study” has been dismissed
Romero Games has announced that funding for its next game has been drawn as several employees claim that the entire study has been affected by Microsoft’s latest cuts.
In a social media post, Romero Games co -founded Brenda Romero a statement that said the team learned last night that its publisher has canceled the financing for his next project, “along with several other unannounced projects on other studios”.
“This was a strategic decision made at a high level within the publisher, well over our visibility or control,” Romero said. “We deeply want something to have been something we could have done to prevent this result.
“This is definitely not a reflection of our team’s work, performance or quality of the project itself. We hit every milestone on time, every time, consistently received great praise and easily passed all our internal gates.
“We are currently evaluating the next step and working quickly to support our team. Many of us have worked together for more than a decade, some for more than 20 years. It’s an extremely difficult day and we’re heart -bridged, it’s come to this.”
Romero does not explicitly say that the loss of financing was due to Microsoft Job -but after the statement was sent, said Christoph Redl, a former hard surface artist in the studio, in a social media post that “because of the recent Xbox discharges I have lost my position at Romero Games” and is now looking for work.
Another former employee has also taken to LinkedIn and claimed that “the entire study is being released due to the layoffs at Microsoft.”
From writing, more than a dozen Romero players have publicly stated that they are looking for work due to layoffs (via IGN).
“Today I found out that our entire study is being released due to the layoffs at Microsoft,” another former employee said.
“A very sad day,” another wrote. “It breaks my heart to say that Romero games fell victim to the 9,100 Microsoft discharges today. The best team I’ve ever worked with and my dream job has gone just like that. It really was a fantastic project and it’s hard to treat it’s over. It’s nothing less than tragic.”
Microsoft announced that it would make changes across its studios yesterday, which has so far resulted in massive job cuts that have seen at least 9,000 employees affected.
More games are also canceled, including Perfectly darkAt Everwildand an unannounced mmo from Elder rolls online Studio. Developer the initiative is also closed.
